Good winter rains filled the soil profile in preparation for spring. The wet and cold conditions continued throughout spring, delaying budburst and resulting in slower shoot growth. Spring rains were higher than the normal winter average and resulted in increased disease pressure and loss of inflorescences, some varieties were more affected than others. Flowering occurred in late November and the weather was mostly cool, wet, windy, and cloudy, negatively affecting fruit set and reducing overall yields. Fortunately, the sun finally came out and we were able to ripen the modest crop to optimal physiological and flavor levels, and harvest began in late February and continued until early April.
